Pete Alonso tipped to sign $130 million contract with National League contender after hitting MLB free agency
After a time in free agency, MLB slugger Pete Alonso might find himself back where he started.
The 30-year-old has played for the New York Mets his whole career.
At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Alonso’s contract with the Mets expired.
After more than a month in free agency, the Polar Bear still hasn’t found a new home.
Since Alonso joined the MLB in 2019, only Aaron Judge has hit more home homers.
According to MLB Insider Robert Murray, a reunion between Alonso and the Mets the following season is the “most likely” conclusion.

According to SportingNews, the two parties are putting a lot of effort into making it happen, but they are now at odds about the length of their deal.
Alonso might return to Queens on a short-term contract that allows for opt-outs, where he would work with new superstar acquisition Juan Soto.
However, a one-year deal would place Alonso and the Mets in a similar predicament the following offseason.
The Mets had an incredible postseason run last season despite a dismal start.
The group wants Alonso back in the building because he was instrumental in that run.
MLB insider Deesha Thosaris of Fox Sports is certain that Alonso will wear the blue and orange in 2025.
The Mets, she contends, “know firsthand how pivotal Alonso’s role was in their 2024 playoff run.”
Thosar went on: “David Stearns can do everything in his power to eliminate sentimentality.
“But I think the emotional tie to Alonso might just push Steve Cohen to get the deal done somewhere around $130 million for five years.”
Alonso has also been linked with a switch to theSan Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Angels, and theChicago Cubsin recent days.
