Phoenix Standoff Tragedy: Father Dead, Six-month-old in Critical Condition
A man suspected of killing his 6-month-old kid numerous times after holding the boy and his mother hostage was discovered dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the ruins of a suburban Phoenix home that caught fire during a SWAT standoff, according to authorities.
According to authorities, the newborn was reported in critical but stable condition at a local hospital on Saturday. They had stated that his injuries from the day before were not deemed to be life-threatening. According to authorities in Surprise, Arizona, roughly 30 miles northwest of Phoenix, the child’s father allegedly broke into the child and mother’s home around 3 a.m. on Friday. According to police, the child’s father did not live in the house, and the man held the mother and infant prisoner for several hours before the woman escaped.

According to authorities, the mother phoned a construction team and asked them to call 911. They stated that she suffered minor injuries and that it was unclear how she escaped.
Surprise police spokesperson Rick Hernandez stated at a press conference on Friday that she feared the baby was in danger. Officers rushed to the residence and heard many rounds of gunshots coming from inside.
Hernandez went on to say, “That’s when the officers pushed entry. Our understanding is that when authorities forced entry, they almost immediately identified the injured youngster, grabbed him, and got him to care.”
“That baby sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries,” he added, adding that the child’s injuries, which were in its lower extremities, were not considered life-threatening.

While police, including several Swat teams, were on the scene, the house caught fire while the child’s father remained inside.
Hector Holguin, the news outlet’s drone operator, described the incident to Arizona’s Family, saying, “Next thing you know, there was smoke.” Following the smoke, a large fire spread from the back of the house to the front. It simply progressed. “It collapsed the roof.”
As the house burnt, many neighboring people self-evacuated when police called them, while others elected to hide in place, according to Hernandez, who added that “as the incident progressed, many were asked to leave.”
Firefighters were able to control the flames by using two ladder trucks to water down both the house and the residence next door, and the fire was almost out by 4.30 pm, according to Arizona’s Family.
Fire damage to the property originally prevented authorities from locating the deceased guy, Hernandez said early Saturday.
“Once it was safe for detectives to enter the home, they discovered Marchetti’s remains with what seems to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. “The cause of death is still unknown pending the results of the medical examiner’s full report,” police said in a statement late Saturday.
