Phoenix Suns make huge NBA Draft decision in trade with Utah Jazz as Jimmy Butler rumors swirl

In an effort to rebuild their roster, the Phoenix Suns have taken a radical step.

The Utah Jazz received a 2031 first-round NBAD draft pick from the Western Conference team.

Additionally, in 2025, 2027, and 2029, they were given three less desirable picks in exchange.

Draft selections from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers are also included in the agreement.

Phoenix will therefore be selected as the least desirable of the three teams, and the precise selection will be determined later.

However, it’s a daring step in an effort to drastically overhaul the struggling roster.

With a 21-21 record, the Suns are ranked 10th in the Western Conference.

Jimmy Butler has indicated that they are his preferred trade destination.

The 35-year-old six-time All-Star wants to leave the Miami Heat.

Additionally, a possible connection with Phoenix’s 36-year-old Kevin Durant and 28-year-old Devin Booker is imminent.

Since losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals in 2021, Phoenix has been steadily declining.

The following year, they won the Western Conference with a 64-18 record.

However, the Dallas Mavericks defeated them in the conference semifinals.

They lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference playoffs in 2023 after finishing the regular season with 45 wins and 37 losses.

In a 4-0 series sweep last year, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated them in the first round.

Phoenix is currently in sixth place and the final automatic playoff slot, five games behind the Los Angeles Lakers.

At the moment, they are fighting to qualify for the play-in competition.

They are one spot ahead of the Golden State Warriors, who have the same 21-21 record.

Cleveland, who have the best record in the league, crushed Phoenix 118-92 in their most recent game.

The Eastern Conference leaders improved to 36-6 for the season with 33 points from Donovan Mitchell.
