PlayStation cancels two upcoming titles including the next God of War game

Jim Ryan was fired as CEO of Sony Entertainment last year, and the firm is currently reversing many of his choices.

Ryan intended to invest a significant sum of money on live-service games in order to expand PlayStation’s online services prior to his departure.

According to Ryan, the corporation has been abandoning live-service initiatives one after another, despite the fact that it needs to develop a viral smash game like Fortnite.

A live-service entry was planned for flagship PlayStation series such as Spider-Man, Horizon, and The Last of Us.

A trailer for the allegedly cancelled live-service Spider-Man game with subtitles, The Great Web, surfaced in March 2024.

According to reports, Horizon Online is still under development as of September 2024, despite The Last of Us Online’s official cancellation in December 2023.

Prior to Sony’s recent announcement that it and another project had been scrapped, it was thought that a God of War live-service game was still in development.

Bend Studios and Bluepoint Games, the two studios developing the live-service games, are not in danger of closing, according to Sony.

The God of War online game was allegedly being developed by Bluepoint, but it is still unclear what live-service game Bend was working on.

According to a representative, Bend and Bluepoint are two very successful teams that are cherished members of the PlayStation Studios family.

It appears like PlayStation has made a solid decision to move away from live-service games, especially in the wake of the brief game Concord.

Only two weeks after its launch, the PlayStation console-only live-service Concord was shut down.

Prior to closing Firewalk Studios, PlayStation first stated that Concord would return, but soon after, they revealed that project had been canceled.

But according to the representative, the business isn’t entirely abandoning the live-service strategy.

The representative asserts that Sony will continue to develop single-player and live-service games, despite the corporation reportedly abandoning these projects due to a recent assessment.
