Popular crafts retailer with 1,200 stores set to shut down only location in city – but bosses say it’s ‘normal’

With 1,200 locations around the country, the Texas-based arts and crafts giant Michaels plans to close its sole site in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Early in the upcoming year, the Brass Mill Commons store will formally close its doors.

According to a Michaels representative, the store will close on January 17, 2025, after the holidays.

Michaels spokesman Rebecca Talley emailed to confirm the shutdown.

It said, We open and close new stores annually as part of our regular business operations.

“We have decided to close our Brass Mill Commons facility for business purposes.

Talley did not specify the rationale behind the Waterbury location’s closure.

She did, however, reassure clients that this is a standard practice for the business.

For many years, Connecticut’s arts and crafts aficionados have turned to the Waterbury Michaels store, which is situated at 295 Union Street.

Its closing will deprive local shoppers of a Michaels store in their area, which offers supplies for everything from sewing and painting to seasonal décor and do-it-yourself projects.

Many people, though, are undoubtedly pleased that this shift will occur in the upcoming year.

You have enough time to gather the supplies you’ll need for creating.

There are still 23 Michaels sites in Connecticut in spite of this setback.

Although we acknowledge that this is frustrating to our Waterbury consumers, we want to continue serving them online at Michaels.com or at our other sites in Connecticut. Talley went on.

MICHAELS RETURN POLICY

In summary, here is Michaels’ return policy:

For consumers who might not be happy with their purchases, Michaels Stores has a clear return policy in place.

Items purchased from Michaels.com may be returned within 60 days of purchase, with the exception of costumes and accessory kits that are only available online, which need to be returned at least seven days before the holiday.

Items must be brand-new, unused, and in their original packaging in order to be returned successfully.

Returns can be started via the customer’s online account or at any Michaels location. Customers can reach Customer Care at 1-800-MICHAELS (1-800-642-4235) for support.

The online return procedure has been made simpler by Michaels. Consumers can file a return request by logging into their Michaels.com account, going to their Order History, and then following a few easy steps.

This procedure entails choosing which goods to return, giving each item a reason and condition, and sometimes attaching comments or images.

Customers will receive information on the return and refund schedule after submitting.

Michaels needs a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, from consumers who want to return things without a receipt.

Using the customer’s Michaels Rewards number, the business will try to find the receipt. The return will be handled as though the customer had the receipt if one is discovered.

If the receipt cannot be found, the ID will be noted, and refunds—usually in the form of a Store Return Card—will be given at the item’s lowest price that was sold in the preceding ninety days.

Unless Michael’s fault caused the return, refunds will include the relevant tax amount and original shipping costs may be subtracted.

With certain exceptions for debit card and gift card purchases, refunds will be given in the same format as the original payment.

Exchanges are not available at Michaels. Customers are instead advised to return the goods and then order the desired item again.

The soon-to-close Michaels is located in Brass Mill Commons, which is also home to a number of other retailers.

Among these retailers are Petco, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Barnes & Noble.

The plaza is still a popular place to shop even as Michaels gets ready to leave.

There are still nearby Connecticut venues for in-person shopping.

Local craftsmen may be disappointed by Michaels’ departure from Waterbury, but they shouldn’t let it stop them.

The business’s ongoing existenceThe brand’s signature goods and services are still available online.

We anticipate that this Connecticut store will have no trouble selling its discounted inventory as the holidays quickly approach.
