Popular mobile phone users urged to switch on new setting that prevents thieves from emptying bank accounts
Users of several well-known cell phones have been advised to activate a new feature that stops thieves from draining their bank accounts.
The most recent versions of Google’s Pixel smartphones now incorporate the company’s new Identity Check feature.
The technology, which seeks to give your phone more protection when you’re not in a secure location, was first unveiled by the business in October of last year.
By making sure “critical account and device settings” are not readily available, it does this.
You will need to give “explicit biometric authentication” in order to access these specific options, which include the ability to modify your pin or turn off theft prevention.
This will prevent someone who has stolen your phone from altering these settings without your fingerprint or another means of identification.

How to tell if someone has unlocked your iPhone to read texts with three clues
Go to the settings on your device and search for Google services to activate the option.
You may then turn on the Identity Check feature by selecting the “all services” menu and going to the theft protection tab.
Adding trustworthy sites where you do not want biometric authentication to be enabled will also be an option.
According to Google, the security measures also apply to your Google account, making it more difficult for someone to alter your password from a mobile device.
The functionality is now being made available to Google Pixel devices running Android 15, and “in the coming weeks” it will also be accessible to Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 7.
The solution will also safeguard users’ Samsung accounts when it is implemented for Samsung devices.
Later in the year, it is anticipated that other Android phones will receive this security feature.
Additionally, Google suggested using its Theft Detection Lock function, which use artificial intelligence to lock your screen when it determines that your device has been taken from you by force.
As thieves lose access to your device, the feature helps stop them from draining your bank accounts by locking your screen.
All Android 10 and later devices can use this system.
Check your phone’s settings for tags like “system” or “about phone” to ensure it has the most recent updates.
If there are any updates for your phone, you should be able to discover them there.
This is in advance of the Galaxy S25, Samsung’s upcoming top phone, which will sport the newest user interface and be able to use Google’s Identity Check feature.
