Prince Harry’s bid to paint Camilla as ‘wicked stepmother’ have backfired – the UK isn’t buying it, says royal expert

PRINCE Harry has been accused of believing conspiracies which  paint Queen Camilla as the “Wicked stepmother” of the Windsor family.

A new Channel 4 documentary features  a string of royal experts who all dismiss claims made by the Duke of Sussex suggesting she’d played a hand in leaking stories to the press to boost her own image.

In Queen Camilla: The Wicked Stepmother? The Queen’s pal Petronella Wyatt claimed his attempts to attack The Queen had backfired and divided the nation.

Talking in the doc she said: “I’m not sure Harry realised how incendiary it was. The whole country seemed to be taking sides.

“I don’t think Harry thinks things through. I think it’s his nature just to press the nuclear button.

“It’s very interesting to see Harry’s position and Camilla’s position within the royal family – they’ve virtually reversed.

Camilla used to be the hated and despised outcast, now Harry’s the outcast and Camilla’s seen with affection and a sort of safe pair of hands.

”It was incredibly vicious. It’s almost as if he’s talking to his therapist and not the public, he has to move on from never getting over his mother’s death.

“He has to move on from casting Camilla as the wicked stepmother.”

The documentary, which airs on C4 on November 24, discusses the suggestion that Camilla and Charles leaked stories to the press to improve her image.

They were claims Harry made last year in his autobiography, Spare, and in interviews organised to promote it.

But even Andrew Morton, the journalist who secretly wrote the bombshell biography of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana,   dismissed the idea.

Prince Harry regrets leaving royal life behind – family’s show of unity rubs in how much he’s given up, expert claims

He said: “Harry has a pretty mechanistic view of the mass media – that it’s all a big conspiracy.

“My own experience  is that it’s a world of Chinese whispers, of hints, and guesses. It always has been and it always will be.”

Jennie Bond, the BBC’s royal correspondent from 1989 to 2003, also laughed at the idea Camilla had forged special relationships with key journalists to leak stories about Harry and his wife, Meghan.

She said: “I wrote to Camilla once and she wrote back a lovely letter but she said I’m so sorry but I have no interest in cultivating a special relationship with any particular journalist.

“I took her at her word and to my knowledge I don’t think she’s done it with other journalists though Harry does feel she has.”
