Prince William hails Kevin Sinfield’s latest fundraising challenge for MND as a ‘fitting tribute’ to Rob Burrow

Rugby player Kevin Sinfield’s most recent motor neurone illness fundraising was praised by the Prince of Wales as a heartfelt remembrance to his former teammate Rob Burrow.

In his challenge to run seven ultra-marathons in seven days, William wished Sinfield the best of luck yesterday.

Since Burrow, who passed away in June, was diagnosed with MND in 2019, the 44-year-old former Leeds Rhinos star has contributed to the raising of almost 16 million dollars.

In a video from Windsor, Wills, who gave the pair CBEs in January, said: Catherine and I wanted to wish you the best of success for what’s going to be an extremely demanding week.

Together, you and Rob have accomplished amazing things, and this is a wonderful way to honor his memory.

You’ll undoubtedly be thinking about him the entire time you’re running.

Sinfield will travel from Liverpool to Manchester via Wrexham, Gloucester, Belfast, Glasgow, Hull, and Northampton during the week-long Running Home For Christmas event.

For a week, he will run 50 km (31 miles) every day, with his hometown of Saddleworth, Oldham, serving as the finish line on Saturday.

In homage to the iconic shirt number Burrow wore prior to winning over the nation’s hearts through fundraising, each race will be divided into hour-long 7km sections.

At yesterday’s Liverpool Santa Dash, Kevin joined a sea of over 8,000 Santas, including football players John Barnes and Peter Reid.
