Putin’s butcher pal Assad ‘FLEES Syria’ as rebels ‘seize’ Damascus in lightning blitz as PM ‘ready to hand over’
After rebels captured Damascus in a lightning strike, the Assad family’s 50-year dominance in Syria came to an abrupt end.
According to reports, the prime minister of the country declared that Assad was prepared to hand over power to the rebels in a peaceful transition, and he departed on an aircraft early on Sunday.
It was the first time opposition forces had made it to Damascus since Syrian army retook parts of the capital’s environs after a siege that lasted for years in 2018.
The third-largest city in Syria, Homs, had been captured by opposition forces the previous evening after government forces withdrew from there.
The area has been rocked by the quickly unfolding events.
With the exception of the one that connects Beirut and Damascus, Lebanon announced that it was blocking all of its land border crossings with Syria.
A border crossing with Syria was also closed by Jordan.
