Rain then snow expected this New Year’s Eve in metro Detroit

All snow north as cooler air moves in just in time for the precipitation to turn into a wintry mix. It’s going to be much colder this weekend. Lori Pinson, a meteorologist, has your prediction.

(FOX 2):Be ready for potentially icy roads this evening, regardless of your vacation plans.

For the majority of Tuesday, a combination of rain and snow is predicted.

Residents should anticipate snow falling for the remainder of the day and into the new year as temperatures drop.

All of this is due to a low pressure system that is heading north through the Ohio Valley.

By midnight, the temperature will be close to freezing. There will be 1 to 2 inches of snow in some places by then.

The roads in Pontiac and Howell are already slippery. You may encounter more accumulation the further north you travel. If you’re going out tonight, proceed with utmost caution.

As the weekend draws near, expect substantially colder temperatures after the start of the new year. With further snow predicted for Sunday, daytime highs won’t rise above the mid-20s.
