Real reason Aldi items have ‘trippy’ barcodes – and it’s also why there’s multiple on a single box

Shoppers have recently realized why all of Aldi’s items have a big barcode strip.

The German grocery store chain is well known for its enormous, hallucinogenic barcodes.

Reddit is a social media site where Aldifans frequently go to try to understand the design.

“Have there always been this many bar codes on the Aldi corn flakes?!” wrote a customer who posted a photo of his cereal box.

Fans posted their theories in the comment area.

“The lengthy barcode has me crying and it’s not even that funny,” one commenter said.

According to a second person’s theory, “Most Aldi items have this. facilitates rapid scanning.

A third, however, stated: “Aldi packaged products frequently have four or five bar codes. Their effective operations engineering includes all of this.

The truth has now been made public by an Aldi spokesperson, and it is what everyone already knew.

“Although it’s a minor detail, we’ve designed our barcodes to ensure products can be scanned quickly from almost any angle, whether by employees or customers using self-checkout,” the spokesperson told Nexstar Media Group.

“By making our barcodes larger, and including several on our packaging, we help reduce the amount of time shoppers need to search for barcodes, which means they can get in, check out and [get] back to life outside the grocery store.”

In the meanwhile, customers at Aldi have found a barcode sticker on the rear of select products, which may indicate reduced costs.

Recently, the UPC barcode on the back of an item at the retailer was obscured by the orange marking.

“What does this sticker mean?” Ty Avera, an Aldi customer, asked in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Avera provided a photo of the orange tag that was visible on the barcode of a mixed-nut package.

Although a number of consumers provided explanations regarding the rationale for Aldi’s orange badge, none of them were conclusive.

According to several, staff members informed them that the orange tag indicated the item was on sale.

“This is what we experienced yesterday! They asked! “It’s on sale,” a fellow Aldishopper told me.

Others disagreed, pointing out that the orange sticker was probably there to conceal the barcode and signal a mistake, or that the cashier was supposed to ring it up in a different way.

“Many retailers get rid of items that are nearing their expiration dates. Because it’s over a bar code, the orange label might indicate that you should manually enter the price instead of scanning it,” someone said.

The purpose of it is to hide the UPC code. “Perhaps it was printed wrong,” someone else repeated.

In addition, a purported Aldi worker wrote, “just a barcode misprint.”
