Riot cops battle protesters in Georgia as ‘pro-Putin’ regime ‘declares war on its people after Vlad helped rig election’

After Georgia’s “pro-Putin” government halted the nation’s attempt to join the European Union, RIOT police have engaged in combat with demonstrators.

The ruling Georgian Dream party, which has been accused of employing Vladimir Putin to rig the election and ensure its victory, has been the target of violent violence.

Pro-Western protesters were targeted by riot police in Tiblisi, Georgia, who were armed with pepper spray, tear gas, and a water cannon.

Fiery images depicted police officers dragging people while they were referred to as “Russians” and “slaves.”

Police officers who attempted to violently disperse crowds were also targeted by protesters with fireworks.

43 people were arrested following last night’s violence, according to the interior ministry.

The country’s “pro-Putin” government halted its long-running ambition to join the EU until 2028, which set off these demonstrations.

Irakli Kobakhidze, the prime minister of Georgia and head of the Georgian Dream party, declared victory in the parliamentary elections held last month.

The opposition asserted that Russian meddling was the reason behind the party’s 54% triumph.

The EU demanded a rerun of these elections hours earlier, citing “significant irregularities.”

The group was accused of “blackmail” by Prime Minister Kobakhidze prior to his contentious announcement of a delay in EU membership.

“We have made the decision to postpone the topic of initiating negotiations with the European Union until the end of 2028,” his party stated.

“Also, we refuse any budgetary grant from the European Union until the end of 2028.”

Salome Zourabichvili, the nation’s president, who holds a primarily ceremonial position, has accused him of being pro-Russia.

Zourabichvili called on Georgians to oppose the latest ruling by the government.

In a speech that was broadcast on television, the president declared: “This country is going back to Russia, which we barely got rid of.”

Later, she joined the demonstrators and declared that a resistance movement had started and would continue until fresh elections were held.

Following the announcement of the Georgian Dream party’s candidate to succeed Zourabichvili with an anti-Western president when her tenure ends in December, pro-Putin accusations against the party also escalated.

Last night, demonstrators outside parliament and in front of police hoisted EU flags.

In spite of this, Georgian Dream declared that it is dedicated to democracy and Western integration and is not pro-Russian.

While Zourabichvili was “attempting to destabilise the situation,” a Kremlin spokeswoman denied Russian meddling in the election, according to VOA.

Russia has also been charged with influencing the unexpected election outcome in Romania.

Unexpectedly, pro-Moscow independent candidate C Lin Georgescu prevailed in the election’s first round.

The Kremlin has refuted claims that it meddled in the elections.
