DETROIT (FOX 2):With a new house, a Detroit mother and her family may enjoy a little extra this holiday season.

A massive gift for Danielle Welcome and her four children less than a week before Christmas. A brand-new, fully equipped house on the west side of Detroit

“We have started a program at the Rocket Community Fund which is really to help families whose home are too far beyond repair to be able to get access to clean, healthy, stable and safe housing,” Laura Grannemann, director of the Rocket Community Fund.

The pilot initiative selects Land Bank properties that can be furnished and renovated in collaboration with Humble Design and the City of Detroit.

“We always tell our clients that we really want this to be a home, where we’re not just bringing furniture, we really want this to be home,” told Chris Decker of Humble Design.

There are five bedrooms in the new house, one for each child.

Hello: “You have your own big girl bedroom.”

One of the girls remarked, “Purple is my favorite color.”

One for Mom, of course.

She chuckled and remarked, “A perfect den for a mama bear,”

The family’s previous house will hopefully be renovated and eventually given to another family.

“A miracle,” one of the kids who was touring the new house put it succinctly. “Because it has so (much) cool stuff that we never dreamed of.”

“Honestly, it’s warm,” welcomingly remarked. “We were fighting some tough times where we re coming from.”
