Roseville Teacher Arrested for Alleged Molestation of 4-year-old, More Victims Sought
A special education teacher from Roseville was arrested on suspicion of abusing a 4-year-old girl, and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that they are seeking potential additional victims.
The victim, now a teenager, told her mother on Friday that when she was four, a male “close to the family” sexually molested her. The mother contacted the Sheriff’s Office, which assigned Child Abuse Bureau officers to investigate the claim.
Detectives interviewed the kid and her mother, who identified Jason Bradley Prater, 49, as the man who abused her, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Detectives spoke with Prater, who “made some admissions and confirmed significant parts of the girl’s statement,” according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies in their release did not identify when the abuse occurred or provide any other information regarding the instances. Following the interview, deputies arrested Prater on suspicion of three felonies in connection with the allegations, including two counts of performing oral sex with a child under the age of ten.

Prater is being held on a $2.1 million bond in Sacramento County Main Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Detectives are now seeking additional possible victims after discovering that Prater was a special education teacher at Options for Youth Charter School in Sacramento and an education specialist at John Adams Academy in Roseville. According to state payroll data kept by Transparent California, Prater also worked as an instructional assistant in the San Juan Unified School District in 2018.
Prater was not included on John Adams Academy’s staff roster on Sunday, despite appearing on the directory in February, and Options for Youth administrators confirmed Prater had not worked at the charter school since August 2023.

Detectives also stated that Prater had worked as a martial arts instructor for children in the Roseville area, but they were unable to discover whether he was linked with any specific studio.
According to public records, Prater was a Roseville resident who had previously lived in Carmichael.
