The consumer found it difficult to understand why retail leaders appeared to trust customers in one way but not in another.
One business that lets customers use scan-and-go technology is Sam’s Club.
As soon as they choose an item, customers can scan it using the company’s mobile app.
They can avoid standing in lengthy checkout lines by using the app to pay for their purchases.
Before exiting a warehouse, scan-and-go customers must still present proof of purchase.

Alright. I have to wait in a mile-long line to have my cart checked, because you don’t trust me.
Sam’s Club offers the scan and go option, however Costco does not.
The irate customer also asserted that retail employees who manually check out merchandise are not trusted by corporate executives.

- While customers are allowed to say no to receipt checks, it may cause issues if you do and the store suspects you of stealing. “You can say no, maybe it creates an unnecessary hassle for yourself because now you may have the police come to your house and follow up,” said Dowlatshahi.
- If you are being barred from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you could have a legal case but the store must have held you for a long time. Let’s say it s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus for doing so,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a customer has been emotionally traumatized by being held for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] to sue.

But Sam s Club bosses are rolling out technology designed to make leaving a store more efficient.
