Second suspect arrested after Detroit police officer dragged by car

DETROIT (FOX 2):Following a wild night on the city’s west side, Detroit Police questioned a second suspect as part of an ongoing investigation. When the policeman saw what several guys were doing, he was dragged by a car.
Their coworkers opened fire on St. Mary Street, close to 7 Mile and Ashbury Park, after the officer was dragged.
Neighbors claim that one of the suspects’ parents was observing the entire time.
The neighbor claimed, “She yelled and told them don’t shoot, and they shot 7-8 times,”
It all started when patrolling authorities questioned about what was happening inside a car that was parked in a suspicious manner.
According to Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald, “both occupants seem to be moving around quite a bit in the car.” It appears like they were hiding something beneath the seat of the car. The passengers refused to get out of the car when the officers ordered them to do so when they got closer. The door was opened by one of the officers. At that point, the vehicle pushed forward into our scout car after backing into the car in the driveway.

According to Jessica Dupnack, the second traveler surrendered himself to the authorities on Wednesday at approximately 2:00 p.m.
According to investigators, two officers felt intimidated when one was dragged when the vehicle attempted to turn.
“Two cops did shoot at the automobile many times out of concern for their personal safety. The vehicle did escape, and we located it on Prevost a few streets away. “The officer was taken to the hospital,” Fitzgerald stated.
They hurried that cop to the hospital. A few blocks away, police learned that another person had been shot multiple times. In critical condition, the individual was also admitted to the hospital.
Fitzgerald stated, “At this point, we believe he was the occupant of the vehicle.”
During risky traffic encounters, retired assistant Detroit police chief Steve Dolunt has been repeatedly pulled by suspects. He discusses the plethora of ideas that go through an officer’s head when they choose to use their weapon to defend themselves and others.
“I reached in to turn off a car of a drunk driver, and it took off and dragged me down Michigan Avenue.” Dolunt recalled. As you squeeze the trigger, you’re thinking, “Well, what will happen to me if I shot this person? Will I end up in jail? Will my family be around again? Will I murder this person and end their life? Will I only cause them harm? Could this shot serve as a deterrent? Everything passes through your mind, and since you are being pulled down the street, you have only a few seconds to complete this task.”
Neighbors say the case, which is still under investigation, should never have gone out of control in a place that has experienced years of trauma.
“I just keep my windows and doors locked, even though I’ve been here for 36 years and have seen a lot. The neighbor remarked, “We just need to do our best and live day by day.”
The officer who was dragged is doing OK.
