DETROIT (FOX 2):Seniors in one apartment complex on Detroit’s east side are suffering greatly as a result of the winter blast that is trembling Metro Detroit.

At the Sheridan Apartments on Jefferson across from Belle Isle, Elonda Gist is one of several people without heat.

Overview:

Fox 2: “How long has it been with no heat?”

“Since Friday,” the woman stated. “I use the oven, I turn my oven on, I had to do it this morning.”

Using extra blankets, Elonda climbed out of the cold bed this morning, felt the chill in the air, and boiled some hot water on the stove.

Another resident who claims to have no heat is Keith “Twin” Blanks.

“I called emergency services last night and they still haven t showed up,” Blanks stated.

Blanks, the complex’s presidential candidate, called maintenance once more.

“This is management?” said FOX 2.

“Yeah this is a voicemail and it s gonna play out and then go – boop,” Blanks said.

However, there was a statement over the loudspeaker while FOX 2 was present.

Overhead, a man remarked, “Thank you, we do have heat and hot water.”

“Do you believe that?” asked FOX 2.

“No, come on,” said Blanks.

Fox 2: “Why do you think you made that announcement?”

“Because y all are here,” Blanks remarked.

We must find the truth about this. FOX 2 managed to catch up with the supervisor of maintenance.

His words, “The heat was never off,” “We have four boilers and we had three running, and we turned on the extra boiler for the colder weather.”

Fox 2: “But they said they had no heat and no hot water?”

“Absolutely not,” responded he.

FOX 2: “Return, Twin. “The heat is back on,” he said.

“It’s not back on. It wasn’t turned on. “He is aware of that,” Blanks remarked.

“He hasn t been here all night like you said,” remarked Gist.

Well, with the additional boiler, the heat should be on now even if it wasn’t.However, not everyone was persuaded.”I’m freezing,” another inmate remarked.

The Sheridan Apartments in Detroit’s maintenance crew and several residents provided the information used in this tale.
