Sheriff Reports Fatal Shootout with Man After Brief Chase in North Harris County

DEBARYLIFE – Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County said that the incident began as a traffic check and escalated into a gunfight and pursuit.

Texas’s Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that during a shootout with deputies in north Harris County, a guy was shot and died. There was a close woman who also sustained injuries.

Gonzalez stated that incident began when deputies pulled up a motorist on FM 1960 close to the North Freeway for having a broken taillight and expired tags.

The driver allegedly refused to exit the car and claimed to be a “sovereign citizen” when they requested him to.

Gonzalez claimed that despite the deputies’ conversation with him lasting roughly an hour, he continued to refuse to comply.

Spike strips were installed to stop the motorist from leaving the scene after deputies said they discovered he may have an outstanding felony warrant out of Brazoria County.

Around 4:17 p.m., the suspect drove off, pursuing deputies for a short distance. Using a pit technique, deputies apprehended him at 4:19 p.m.

Gonzalez, the suspect, started firing at deputies after his SUV flipped over. The suspect was hit by deputies firing back, and he was declared dead at the scene.

According to Gonzalez, the subject was shot at by one sergeant and three deputies.

According to Gonzalez, a female bystander was struck by gunshots and taken to the hospital. He stated that she had surgery and that a full recovery was anticipated.

Owners of E&J transportation services, Judy Coward and her husband, were caught in the crossfire.

“We were over here because we came to get gas to prepare for Monday morning,” she claimed.

There were bullets everywhere on their private bus.

“It went through the left side of our bus,” she responded. “It’s just the experience you see on TV and in movies; you never anticipate seeing it through to the very end live.”

Gonzalez stated that this is just early data. We do not currently know the suspect’s name.
