Shocking Neglect! Denison Parents Face Child Endangerment Charges After Leaving Children Unsupervised

DENISON, Iowa – A Denison mother and father are charged with child endangerment after their two small children were discovered alone while the parents were in Oklahoma.

According to court filings, on May 2 at 9:39 a.m., a 3-year-old was unsupervised running around naked and rolling in a ditch along Highway 30. The toddler was later discovered in an unlocked automobile. When discovered, Josephine Hazelwood, 25, claimed her son had been kidnapped.

At the same time, Cody Hutchison, 25, was supposedly fishing. Later that day, around 4:24 p.m., two youngsters, aged 8 and 5, were discovered alone and unsupervised, according to papers. It was then discovered that the parents, Hazelwood and Hutchison, both from Denison, had allegedly left for Oklahoma “without making arrangements for the two minor children’s welfare.”

A warrant was issued for Hazelwood and Hutchison’s arrest, and they were taken into custody on May 7.

Hazelwood and Hutchison were each charged with two counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. The two were placed in Crawford County Jail on a $4,000 bond. They have since bonded out of jail.

Both have their next court appearance planned for Tomorrow (May 17 ).
