There is more winter weather on the way this weekend
(FOX 2):As the forecast shifts back to the forecast, Southeast Michigan faces snow, subzero wind chills, and gale warnings in the neighboring Great Lakes today and tomorrow.
There is only minimal moisture in the air to begin Wednesday morning, but the majority of the winter advisories are on the west half of the state where lake effect snow is expected to arrive today.
With the first flakes falling in the early afternoon, that will vary over the day. By that time, temperatures in the Detroit metro area would peak at about 35 degrees before dropping to freezing.
At its worst, snow accumulation on the sidewalks in the Detroit region might reach an inch. The likelihood of snow squalls is highest on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
By Wednesday evening, Ann Arbor and Detroit will receive 1-2 inches of snow, while Pontiac and Howell may receive up to 4 inches.
Metro Detroit is facing another band of lake effect snow this week, signaling the arrival of winter. Wednesday morning will see the first flakes fall.
Later tonight, arctic air is expected to come in, according to the National Weather Service. In the majority of the area, including as far north as Lapeer and Flint, as well as out west in Washtenaw County, the wind chill will cause temperatures to feel below zero.
It will feel like four degrees in Detroit.
Later Wednesday afternoon, there will be gusts of wind as well.
This weekend is when the next weather system is predicted to arrive.
