South St. Louis Gripped by Fatal Standoff After Disturbing Discovery on Porch

ST. LOUIS: Following a domestic violence episode that turned into a shooting and subsequent police standoff, two persons have died. Late last night, just south of Tower Grove Park, at Hartford and Bent, a horrible incident occurred.

The incident started, according to police, shortly after 9:20 p.m. when they got a call reporting gunfire in the 4200 block of Hartford. Officers found Elizabeth Colletta deceased on a house porch when they arrived. She was fifty-five.

Authorities suspect that Colletta was shot by Walter Young, who was inside the house and would not come out.

There are requests to cease using blue USPS mailboxes due to recent mail thefts.
Young allegedly opened fire on the police from inside the house as they were caring to Colletta, resulting in an instant response from the authorities and a standoff.

After several tense hours, the SWAT team was dispatched to the area, and at approximately 11 p.m., they released gas into the house.

After breaking inside the house, the SWAT team discovered Young dead. Whether he killed himself or was killed by the cops during the gunfire is still unknown. Thankfully, the event did not result in any injuries to police personnel.
