Spotify users disappointed over ‘lazy’ Wrapped 2024 with ‘missing features’ and threaten to switch to alternative
The “lazy” concept and lack of features at this year’s Spotify Wrapped event have left fans feeling taken advantage of.
Since its debut in 2016, Spotify Wrapped has gained widespread popularity online, with users proudly displaying photos of their roundups on social media.
Every year, millions of people watch the event.
However, a lack of popular genres and interesting facts about their favorite songs or singers in their Wrapped has infuriated many.
People are also perplexed as to why there was no area dedicated to the best podcasts.
“It was sooo underwhelming this year,” a person commented on X, the previous Twitter. “Ugh no genres, no top albums.”

Another user remarked, “This year’s Spotify Wrapped felt so rushed and lazy,”
“Makes me wanna move over to Apple Music… is it really that good over there?” said another.
“I’m thinking about it too, apparently the audio quality is better,” a fourth respondent said.
“[Wrapped] feels so lifeless and dull this year, plus it didn t show our top genres.”
Apple Music, which is often regarded as Spotify’s main competitor, has developed a feature called Wrapped-inspired Replay that displays your music statistics for the last 12 months.
Apple breaks down your top genres, top artists by month, top songs by month, and more, but it doesn’t provide any trivia.
According to one internet rumor, the Wrapped experience this year has been directly influenced by Spotify’s cutbacks from last year.
Many claim that Spotify used artificial intelligence (AI) to replace a large portion of its Wrapped team.
But there isn’t any proof of this.
The AI DJ, AI Playlist, and AI Podcast features that come with standard Spotify Wrapped seem to be the only AI utilized in the service.
According to multiple tweets from fans, Spotify’s confusing “genres” haven’t helped the claims, though.
Instead of genres, users were presented with an apparently random collection of words, like “pink pilates princess strut pop,” “pumpkin spice rollerskating pop,” “mallgoth rock out metalcore,” and “grandmother old school soul motown.”
This year, Spotify seems to have adopted ‘digital jargon’ to describe its genres, which only those who are regularly online can understand.
“Spotify Wrapped has lost what made it so dynamic in the first place,” some users also commented.
“The city mapping and zodiac sign integration etc made it fun and immersive.”

“Wrapped was such a BUST compared to years prior,” tweeted a sixth listener.
“I ve saved screenshots of all my wraps and this one was by far the most unoriginal and bland use of my data.”
