Susan Smith unrecognizable as she’s seen for first time in years at parole hearing 30 years after killing her own kids
After serving 30 years in prison, child killer Susan Smith is seen for the first time in years as she makes a plea for her freedom before a parole board.
Wearing a light blue prison jumpsuit, Smith, 53, made an appearance during her parole hearing on Wednesday via a Zoom link provided by the court.
Smith’s case, according to her defense lawyer, was about a “undiagnosed mental health problem” that started when her father committed suicide when she was six years old, the parole board was informed.
“I know it’s important to her to bring this to your attention,” the lawyer stated.
“A number of stress points that came together simultaneously. We are attempting to demonstrate to the parole board how these issues accumulated.”
Smith’s attorney contended that the convicted murderer had sought mental health care as a young adolescent and that her murders had been committed when she was 23.
