Suspect behind Christmas Eve shooting in Oxford illegally possessed handgun with extended mag

Bouchard said that he thought the shooting was deliberate because the suspect fired more than 30 rounds from an extended magazine, however it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol had a role.

(FOX 2):When a man opened fire on citizens in Oxford on Christmas Eve, December 24, killing one woman and wounding two more, the Oakland County Sheriff is still perplexed.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard told FOX 2 on Thursday that there doesn’t seem to be any relationship between the gunman, the victim, or the scene. He described the indiscriminate gunfire as a “incredibly violent rampage.”

Bouchard said that he thought the shooting was deliberate because the suspect fired more than 30 rounds from an extended magazine, however it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol had a role.

The suspect was driving home from a Christmas party when he crashed; he has not yet been identified because he has not been charged. Before he left, he pointed a 9 millimeter handgun at passersby.

On Ray Road between Lapeer and N. Oxford Roads, he had another collision. Then he opened fire, striking a man in one car and a mother and daughter in another.

Despite the daughter’s potentially fatal injuries, authorities are optimistic that she will recover. On Christmas Day, her mother passed away. The man was barely slightly hurt.

That was “the worst nightmare on so many levels,” according to Bouchard.

When sheriff’s deputies from the Oxford sub station arrived on the scene, they discovered him in the middle of the road, still brandishing the revolver, and took him into jail.

He has a history of violence and evading law enforcement, according to Bouchard, and has been found guilty of several weapons-related offenses in the last ten years.
