Taco Bell’s ‘best menu item’ returns for $2.99 on Decades Menu after 5 years of fans begging
A popular delicacy that disappeared from menus more than five years ago has returned thanks to TACO Bell.
The Decades Menu, a nostalgic marketing that highlights 1960s fan favorites, is responsible for its comeback.
On October 31, the Decades Menu was introduced, celebrating the dishes that have been served to generations of patrons since the first Taco Bell opened in 1962 in Southern California.
Taco Bell has been serving the Tostada, Green Sauce Burrito, Meximelt, and Gordita Supreme at its more than 7,000 outlets across the country for weeks.
Fans had to wait a little while longer for the Taco Bell selection that represented the ’00s, but each one depicts the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, respectively.
After more than five years of pleading, the Caramel Apple Empanada is now available to consumers as of November 21.

According to the press release, the delectable treat has a “golden-brown crispy exterior” with caramel filling and apple chunks in the middle.
After a few years, it was unceremoniously removed from the menu in 2019, and it will make a brief comeback on the Decades Menu.
The Caramel Apple Empanada is available to customers for just $2.99.
Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, Taylor Montgomery, stressed that the company’s decision to bring back dishes like the Caramel Apple Empanada was a “love letter” to its patrons, expressing gratitude for their patronage throughout the years.
“Everyone remembers the moment they fell in love with Taco Bell and that one special menu item that brings you right back,” Montgomery said in the news release.
“The Decades Menu and the merch we’re creating are an ode to our rich history and a love letter to our fans, whether they’ve been rolling through our drive-thru for decades or are just about to discover their first Caramel Apple Empanada.”
PRICING PROMISE
According to the statement, Taco Bell’s goal is to remain a “value-focused brand,” which includes making all of the items on the Decades Menu under $3, including the Caramel Apple Empanada.
Since its announcement, customers have been enthusiastic about the offering’s crucial component of affordable cost.
In a Facebook thread last month, someone cried out, “Bring back those vintage prices!”
Another person echoed, “Nostalgic prices, not nostalgic menu!”
Taco Bell Decades Menu
This fall, Taco Bell will launch its Decades Menu on October 31. Five previously discontinued items from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 2000s will be available to customers. Below is a list of each:
- The Tostada (’60s)
- Green Sauce Burrito (’70s)
- The Meximelt (’80s)
- Gordita Supreme (’90s)
- Caramel Apple Empanada (00’s) *Available starting November 21
While supplies last, those who are interested in the Decades Menu-celebrating goods can also take advantage of the Stainless-Steel Decades Cups, which include Taco Bell logo designs from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.
At some Taco Bell locations, plastic cup versions might still be offered with purchases of Decades Menu items, however there might not be many remaining as the promotion comes to an end.
Taco Bell’s website has been selling Limited Edition Decades Hoodies.
CHICKEN CHANGE
Similar attention is being paid to Taco Bell’s new menu item, the Caramel Apple Empanada.
According to a Facebook post by gourmet and reliable insider Markie Devo (@markie_devo), Taco Bell will allegedly introduce Crispy Chicken Nuggets for a brief period beginning on December 9.
Earlier this spring, there were rumors that the delicious delicacy had been tested at a few venues in Houston, Texas.
They consist of “all-white meat chicken, marinated in a mild jalape o buttermilk, and breaded in a coating that features crunchy tortilla bits,” according to Devo.
Additionally, there will be two condiment options for the Crispy Chicken Nuggets: Jalape o Honey Mustard and Bell condiment.
Some menu staples will also be returned by rival restaurants like McDonald’s.

As some fans demand a classic chicken dish, a contentious sandwich at the company will be making a comeback in a few days.
After the ‘first step’ of the process was unveiled months ago with a $4.99 crispy option, many customers are also eagerly anticipating the reintroduction of a discontinued staple.
