Target shopper calls out store after 15-minute wait for essential due to ‘enemy’ policy change – others turned to Amazon

After a lengthy wait, a TARGET customer was left in a rage over a necessary item for their child.

Last month, they criticized their tailgiant for a policy that prevented them from acquiring the crucial right away.

Mary, the customer, raged in apostto X, saying, “I had to wait almost fifteen minutes at a Target in Pasadena for someone to unlock the cold medicine for me when my daughter was sick.”

Mary added that because they were also secured behind glass, she was unable to buy other necessities for the grocery store and return later for the cold medication.

“Went to get her a few other things and just skipped laundry soap and a few other items because they were all locked up too,” she stated.

Mary’s remark was mirrored by other customers who pointed out that items like razors were also kept away.

Due to Target’s habit of locking off some items, one person quipped that they “haven’t shaved” their legs for more than a year.

Mary said she had had enough and that going forward, she would be buying necessities like razors on Amazon.

One customer even went so far as to call Target the “enemy,” in part due to the merchandise being secured behind glass.

“Sorry, but please shop locally if you can,” they stated.

Over a year ago, Target started installing the secured glass cabinets in stores it deemed necessary as an anti-theft tool.

The glass was added for extra security in order to prevent inventory loss in the 1,963 stores owned by the retail behemoth that had higher-than-average retail theft rates.

A staff member must push a button to help customers who require merchandise from behind the glass (or ask if they are nearby). The staff member will then use a key to unlock the items and give them to the customer.

Theoretically, it works well, but when Target stores with the glass displays are either overstaffed or extremely crowded, staff members aren’t always available to help.

NOT ALONE

After waiting ten minutes for things, Jen, a customer who was in a similar scenario to Mary, threatened to “go elsewhere” and stated that her local Target had just lately begun to lock merchandise away.

In November, she posted on X, “My target locked up all the skincare items in the last couple of weeks.”

“Another woman and I rang the bell for assistance, had to wait a full 10 min bc the store was so understaffed they didn’t have anyone to unlock them…guess I’ll go elsewhere bye bye @Target.”

Target is still working to avoid a recurrence of the September 2023 incident, in which nine locations permanently closed as a result of widespread retail theft.

“We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” Target stated in a news release at the time.

Nevertheless, since this summer, additional consumers have been complaining about the locked-behind-glass approach and requesting that Target hire extra staff to stand around the exhibits.

CHECKOUT CHANGE

A 10-item self-checkout limit that Target permanently instituted at all of its locations earlier this year also stirred controversy.

Before being implemented nationwide, the Express Self-Checkout was tested at 200 locations, and customers have complained about lengthy wait times.
