Teen sells ultra-rare 1969 Camaro for $2,500 – then finds it at auction years later for $150,000

A man was devastated to find his extremely rare 1969 Camaro at auction for a cool $150,000 after selling it for just $2,500 when he was a youngster.

A rare RS Z/28s Camaro was purchased for $1,500 in 1979 by 16-year-old Glenn Stearns, the creator of Stearns Lending and star of Undercover Billionaire.

The teenager, who was now a father, had purchased the vehicle from a buddy and had little idea how special it was.

The Camaro, which was first released in 1966 as a 1967 model to compete with the Mustang, gained popularity very fast, particularly thanks to its powerful Z/28 Special Performance package.

According to Auto Evolution, Stearn became dubious of the car’s actual worth after selling it since he kept getting calls from fans asking questions about it.

He later learned from one of the callers that he had sold a genuine rarity—a 1969 model year, one-in-five first-generation Camaro Z/28 RS—for pennies on the dollar.

Stearns, who is now affluent, started looking for his missing Camaro in 1984. He eventually found it at a Scottsdale auction in 2019 and paid $150,000 to buy it back.

Exactly forty years later, the new amount is sixty times more than what he received for it in 1981 and a hundred times more than what he spent for it in 1979.

Stearn still has the fully restored and original automobile, which he recently displayed during a sit-down interview with comedian and well-known gearhead Jay Leno.
