Ten tons of cocaine worth £200m set ablaze in Dominican Republic in massive victory in war on drug gangs

Ten tons of cocaine are burned, signaling a positive outcome in the fight against drug gangs.

With a value of about $200 million, the haul was the biggest to be confiscated in the Caribbean and Dominican Republic.

It was allegedly headed for Belgium when it was discovered concealed in a shipment of bananas at the nation’s main harbor in the capital, Santo Domingo.

Ten individuals were taken into custody.

Officials in white suits put out the hundreds of medication packets before they were burned.

It coincides with a bold drug seizure in August when a British battleship found more than 40 million dollars’ worth of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea.
