DEBARYLIFE – Shops temporarily close while frightened customers flee and hide while police investigate.

Sweetwater, Florida — Stores at Dolphin Mall in Miami-Dade County were closed on Sunday due to reports of gunfire, but authorities later declared the mall safe.

The Sweetwater Police Department reports that investigators at the outlet mall located at 11401 NW 12 St. were unable to locate any evidence of a gunshot.

“Reports of gunfire at Dolphin Mall are known to us. Additional research revealed no evidence to support these reports. It has been determined that the mall is safe, an official stated on X.

The Miami-Dade Police Department reports that there was an altercation at the mall, but no one was hurt. Rumors circulated on social media, and there was fear.

Sabrina Zamora claimed that while she was at American Eagle, she witnessed customers racing into the store, and staff members closing the front door and evacuating customers into the rear.

According to Zamora, “Everyone was just running, crying, having panic attacks.”

When a shoe store salesperson closed and advised patrons to seek refuge in the rear, Neil Gonzalez was inside. A video that he posted on Facebook.

In the footage, Gonzalez stated, “Everyone is scared.”

Videos of shoppers cowering inside businesses while waiting for updates and people fleeing the mall were uploaded by witnesses.

Lichesha Lashon posted on Facebook, “Stuck at Dolphin Mall in a store closet due to a fight and shooting.”

By 5:40 p.m., according to witnesses, the majority of the stores had reopened.
