‘They did not want to do this’ insists Fox NFL Sunday star Jay Glazer after team’s major quarterback decision

FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer shared insight on the Indianapolis Colts’ move to start Anthony Richardson against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Glazer appeared on the Week 11 edition of the pregame showFox NFL Sunday.

Ahead of the NFL games, Glazer shared that theIndianapolis Colts”didn’t want to do this” in regards to sitting veteranJoe Flaccoafter two games.

Flacco’s poor performance led to the Indianapolis’ decision to make Richardson their starting quarterback again, per Glazer.

“They did not want to do this. They wanted this to be Joe Flacco for the rest of the year andAnthony Richardsonto just learn,” Glazer said.

“The problem was Joe Flacco didn’t perform, he turned the ball over too much so this was a decision by their head coach Shane Steichen not the owner, Jim Irsay, which people thought it was.”

Earlier in the season, Flacco was solid while filling in for the then-injured Richardson, posting 548 passing yards and five touchdowns against one interception across two starts.

However, after the benching of Richardson, the 39-year-old posted four interceptions and lost two fumbles while the Colts suffered two straight losses.

Glazer also mentioned the fact that other franchises called Indy before the tradedeadlineto acquire Richardson.

“Absolutely not. He’s still ourfuture,” Glazer said of the Colts’ response to trade inquiries.

Richardson led the Colts past theNew York Jetsin his return to the starting job.

The 2023 first-round pick orchestrated two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, including the game-winner with 46 seconds remaining.

Richardson had arguably the best game of his young career in the 28-27 win.

He completed 20 of 30 passes for a career-high 272 yards and three total touchdowns – two of them on the ground.

In the fourth quarter, Richardson also completed 8 of 10 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown.

For the first time this season, he finished the game with more than a 60 percent completion rate.

Richardson admitted that getting benched helped him.

“It kind of just let me relax a little bit, although I didn t necessarily want to relax too, too much, but it just allowed me to take a step back and clean up some things that I have to clean up,” Richardson said after the game, viaYahoo’s Charles McDonald.

That was really my focus, when I did get the opportunity again, making sure that I was at the best of my ability, and I was doing the right thing for the team.”
