Tragic Highway Incident! Three Construction Workers Killed by Drowsy Driver in Pennsylvania

LEWISBERRY, Pa (AP) — On Friday, officials said that a truck driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel before colliding with a construction vehicle and was responsible for the deaths of three construction workers on the shoulder of a highway in Pennsylvania in April.

At approximately 8 miles (13 km) south of Harrisburg on April 17, the Pennsylvania State Police reported that a driver from Roxbury, Massachusetts, who was 24 years old, had fallen asleep while driving on Interstate 83.

After colliding with a construction vehicle in a work zone at approximately 3:25 in the morning, the guy was driving a large box truck, according to the investigators, and then hit the three workers on the shoulder.

Three individuals, namely Jesse McKenzie, 24, from Rockwood, Pennsylvania, Philson Hinebaugh III, 24, from Johnston, Pennsylvania, and Robert Hampe, 41, from Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, were unfortunate enough to lose their lives.

No injuries were sustained by the driver.

According to a statement provided by a spokesperson for the State Police, once the investigation has been concluded, a decision will be taken on whether or not to bring charges in the matter.
