Three members apart of Detroit branch of national violent gang sentenced to 60+ years in prison

DETROIT (FOX 2):A jury in federal court sentenced three members of a national gang to lengthy prison terms for deadly crimes in Detroit.

Three members of the Almighty Vice Lord Nation (AVLN) were found guilty by a jury on April 23 of RICO conspiracy, murder, drug trafficking, and firearms offenses, the US Department of Justice said Thursday.

The statement was delivered by US Attorney Dawn Ison, who stated that the evidence shown throughout the trial demonstrated that the AVLN was a massive criminal organization that engaged in violent crimes, drug trafficking, firearms violations, and other crimes all over the nation.

Authorities said the gang is split up into many sections that report to a “board” in Chicago.

Gang members from Detroit were on trial.

According to the DOJ, three individuals were found guilty, including:



  • “Terry Douglas,

    44, of Detroit, who held the title of “Chief” and was the Michigan leader of the Traveling Vice Lords. Douglas was sentenced to 60 years in prison.


  • Schuyler Belew,

    31, of Detroit, who held the title of “Universal Elite” and was the Detroit leader of the Traveling Vice Lords. Belew was sentenced to 60 years in prison.


  • Devun Baskerville,

    34, of Detroit, who held the title of “Chief Enforcer” for the Traveling Vice Lords. Baskerville was sentenced to 70 years in prison.”

According to evidence presented during the trial, the three gang members collaborated to advance the AVLN, which included murderous activities, drug trafficking, and witness intimidation.

The jury in federal court heard testimony regarding a shooting incident that occurred at a park in Detroit. Baskerville, acting under the direction of Douglas and Belew, shot his girlfriend multiple times as she attempted to flee, and he also attempted to kill someone suspected of assisting law enforcement.

Her two small children were in the car as well, but they were unharmed. According to officials, the girlfriend was shot but survived. At the moment, she was expecting.

Lawon Carter, a guy, was also found guilty of firearms charges and narcotics trafficking. The date of his sentencing is April 28, 2025.

“The sentences handed down in this case should send a clear message to violent offenders who terrorize our neighborhoods: we won t stop until you are brought to justice,” stated U.S. Attorney Ison. “It is my sincere hope that these sentences bring some closure to the victim s family.”
