Tom Brady makes final decision over new Las Vegas Raiders OC after stealing top college head coach

At the Las Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady is still expanding his coaching staff.

Brady has recruited a top offensive coordinator from college football after appointing Pete Carroll as the team’s head coach.

Chip Kelly, the offensive coordinator for Ohio State, is leaving the national champion Buckeyes to rejoin the NFL.

Kelly played collegiate football for the previous seven years, serving as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator in 2024.

The national champions finished with a 14-2 record and averaged 35.7 points per game.

The club held Kelly in high regard, and his best wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith, expressed his sadness upon his departure.

He wrote, “Nooooo,” along with a sad heart emoji.

Kelly was previously the head coach of UCLA, where he led the Bruins to a 35-34 record in six seasons.

The San Francisco 49ers’ head coach in 2016 was the last NFL coaching position held by the new Raiders offensive coordinator. That season, the squad finished 2–14.

From 2013 to 2015, he was also the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, who finished 26–21 and made one postseason trip.

The Raiders’ coaching staff is completed with Kelly joining as offensive coordinator.

Both special teams coach Tom McMahon and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham were retained by the squad.

In his first press conference, Carroll stated that he was seeking a “combination” of coaches to round out his staff.

“I’m really looking for people that have been with me, that understand the philosophy to some extent,” Carroll stated.

In order for them to understand what we’re all about and what we anticipate, I [also] want guys who have never been around me before. We may observe while they do so.

“After that, I’m hopeful we can keep some of the amazing coaches on staff so we can benefit from their ideas and the continuity they can provide.

“We’re looking for ball people. We want guys who are passionate about the game. It’s also critical to find people who can push us and help us develop. Based on my past, I know that I need people to keep me on course.

“I’m going to start going because, as you can see, I get very juiced up. I require others to maintain my equilibrium.

The Raiders hiring Kelly has piqued the interest of NFL fans, who expressed their opinions on social media.

“This was a good hire, that coaching staff is full of elite position coaches and coordinators,” a fan commented.

He returned to the NFL as an OC, which shocked me. Another fan remarked, “It’s obvious that he wants another chance at being an NFL head coach.”

A third fan commented, “I think it’s a good idea, but I didn’t see this coming.”
