Fox 2: OAKLAND TWP, MICHA 66-year-old widow was killed in a traffic accident just 24 hours after her husband was rescued from a lake after slipping through the ice, meaning that one Livonia family’s reprieve from sorrow was short-lived.

When the collision happened on Oakland Township’s Rochester Road and Beach Drive at 1:53 p.m. on Friday, investigators think the wife was on her way to pick up her husband’s car. Her husband had fallen through the ice at a lake in Oakland County twenty-four hours and eight minutes prior to the incident.

A 19-year-old Oakland Township man was driving a 2011 Ford Edge south on Rochester Road on Friday when, for an apparent reason, his car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling north. Following the collision, paramedics from the Oakland Township Fire Department transported the 62-year-old Clarkston man who was operating the Jeep and his wife to the hospital. The wife’s status is reported as critical, while the man’s is described as stable. The woman who died was a passenger in the backseat.

Neither person’s name has been made public by the police yet.

At a nearby hospital, the spouse who broke through the ice is still in severe condition. He was accompanied by their grandchild, who was uninjured.

On Thursday afternoon, the two had went out onto Addison Township’s Lake George and, as the ice broke way, they started drilling into it. His 15-year-old grandson contacted 911 after the 66-year-old guy fell first.

He tried to free his grandfather after calling the police, but he also fell in.

Luckily, a neighbor who was observing the situation retrieved his kayak and went out to assist.

Before returning to shore to retrieve a second kayak to help the grandfather, he was able to help the adolescent get out of the water. The man’s head was above water until help arrived, but the good samaritan was unable to save him right away because the ice kept breaking.

Before administering CPR, local firefighters were able to remove the grandfather from the water and onto safer ice using a line.
