WEST POINT, Mississippi – The Sportsplex in West Point is where a five-year-old boy was electrocuted on Thursday night.

As the youngster touched an electrical box on a pole close to the field, West Point Police Chief Avery Cook said that he was stunned.

As he was brought to the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, the youngster was conscious, according to the chief.

For additional testing and monitoring, he was afterward brought to the Tupelo Medical Center.

The chief claims that when an officer checked him out in Tupelo on Friday morning, he was still awake.

Following an inspection and declaration of safety, the West Point Water and Light Department closed the Sportsplex.
