Tragic Loss: Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Stewart Dies in the Line of Duty
Los Angeles — On Sunday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner attempted to ascertain the cause of death of a sheriff’s officer who died while on duty. “On behalf of @lasdhq, we are profoundly saddened to report Deputy Jonathan Stewart’s sudden death on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Jonathan joined the Department in 2006 as a Custody Assistant, and a year later graduated from academy class #364, honorably serving Los Angeles County residents. During his employment, he was assigned to the Inmate Reception Center before being transferred to the South Los Angeles Station in 2014.
He was promoted to Field Training Officer in 2020 and remained in that capacity until his death. Jonathan spent a decade serving the South Los Angeles community, and his peers and bosses admired his unwavering dedication. Jonathan was survived by his wife and three children.
Our @lasdhq family is grieving the loss of a beloved member of our family, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and partners during this terrible time.”
Around 9 p.m. Saturday, the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station requested an ambulance for an “unresponsive deputy,” according to Deputy Tracy Koerner. A procession was held to transport the deputy’s body from the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station in the unincorporated Athens region, between Normandie Avenue and the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, to the medical examiner’s office in Boyle Heights.
