Tragic Update: DC Police Release Name of Woman Who Died in Carjacking-Related Crash
(Washington), USA — The woman’s name was made public by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on Monday after she passed away in a carjacking SUV.
According to the MPD, on Tuesday, Leslie Marie Gaines, 55, of Northeast, was inside the SUV at MedStar Washington Medical Center when her daughter exited the vehicle to get her a wheelchair.
According to the police, Gaines and Kayla Kenisha Brown, 22, who was visiting the hospital, got into the SUV and drove off.
Brown attempted to turn onto D Street NW at about 1:30 p.m., according to MPD, but she struck a building at 601 D St. NW.

Brown was driving in the 400 block of 6th St. NW. Brown allegedly tried to flee after getting out of the SUV, but a police captain stopped her.
Gaines died in the hospital after being taken there by medical personnel.
Brown is accused of felony murder, kidnapping, and carjacking, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Brown was supposed to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
