Travis Kelce beats Patrick Mahomes in brutal awards snub for Kansas City Chiefs superstar despite heroics
Patrick Mahomes has lost a big NFL award to Travis Kelce.
His club has nominated the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for Walter Payton Man of the Year.
Each NFL team nominates a player for the coveted honor each year.
“Nationwide’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award honors an NFL player for his outstanding performance both on and off the field.
Established in 1970, the award was renamed in 1999 in honor of Walter Payton, a running back who was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“One person who has significantly improved his community is nominated by each team, and out of the 32 nominations, one winner is chosen.

“A WPMOY trophy silhouette helmet decal is applied to nominees starting in Week 14 and continues until the end of the season to honor them each year.
“In addition, all current players who have received this esteemed award are honored with a trophy silhouette patch on the front of their jerseys.”
Each nominee receives $55,000, and the winner gets $265,000 to donate to their preferred charity.
This season, Kansas City chose to nominate Kelce for his community service.
Kelce is the founder of the Eighty-Seven & Running charity, which provides mentorship and life skills training to underprivileged youngsters.
Additionally, he started the Ignition Lab, an after-school program that gives inner-city kids practical experience.
Being nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award is a true honor for me. “It’s very special to have the Chiefs nominate me again because this organization and this city mean so much to me,” Kelce said.
“I understand the value of having people at your side because I grew up in Cleveland Heights with loving family and friends.
Through Eighty-Seven & Running, our work with Operation Breakthrough, and the Ignition Lab, it has been amazing to be able to work toward giving youngsters the same support and inspiration.
“I will always treasure the moment I witnessed the first class from the Ignition Lab preparing to graduate. These kids have truly embraced the chance, and I am aware of how important hope and purpose are throughout those high school years.
“I’ll never take for granted the opportunity to give back to the Kansas City community and to show my hometown love.”
