Two Men Arrested in Newberry After Attempted Homicide in Gilchrist County
Scotty Jacob Davidson, 48, and Jesse Wayne Richards, 37, were arrested in Newberry after an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle linked to an attempted homicide in Gilchrist County. On September 11, Gilchrist County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting in the Bell area, where a victim was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim, who survived the incident with non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital after being driven to the Emergency Operations Center by friends.
During the investigation, Davidson was identified as one of the suspects involved in the shooting, alongside two other unidentified white males and one unidentified white female. A warrant was issued for Davidson’s arrest on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On September 12, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a light blue Ford Escape matching the vehicle description connected to the crime. After confirming the vehicle’s tag, the deputy initiated a traffic stop. However, the driver, Richards, attempted to flee, ramming a gate and driving onto private property before being apprehended. Richards was charged with property damage and attempting to elude law enforcement, with his bail set at $350,000.
