Ukraine revenge strike leaves Russian commander, 29, who oversaw deaths of 59 in cafe attack fighting for his life
Kyiv claims a top Russian missile commander is battling for his life after being hit by a Ukrainian retaliatory attack.
Ukrainian military intelligence reports that 29-year-old Captain Konstantin Nagayko was left in “critical condition” following the strike that struck Russia’s Ivanovo area.
The strike is the most recent in a string of Ukrainian attacks on senior Russian officials close to despot Vladimir Putin.
According to reports, after “all his vital organs were damaged,” Nagayko, who Kyiv has accused of war crimes, had to undergo intensive surgery.
“[Nagayko] has multiple fragmentary lesions in virtually all organs, including the brain,” a senior official from Ukraine’s GUR intelligence agency stated. He experienced a trepanation of the cranium.

According to Ukraine, Nagayko was responsible for the October 2023 missile strike that killed 59 people at a cafe in Kharkiv.
According to the description, the captain was the battery commander of the division of the 1st tank army’s 112th missile brigade in the Russian Federation’s Western Military District.
The retaliatory strike follows reports that Ukraine launched one of the largest drone raids since the start of the conflict, sweeping through the area around St. Petersburg.
