Venezuelan Gang Member And Armed Migrant Squatter Arrested By Federal Agents

NEW YORK CITY –

A migrant squatter with connections to the international criminal organization Tren de Aragua was apprehended, according to New York City Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Tuesday.

Johan Jose Cardenas Silva is wanted in Peru on allegations of aggravated theft, violence, and conspiracy, according to ICE.

After Cardenas was released from the Nassau County Correctional Center, ICE agents took him into custody. He’s in custody now, waiting to be deported from the United States.

After coming across Cardenas in 2022, border patrol agents concluded that he had entered the country unlawfully.

Then, he received an urgent removal order from the officers. ICE claims that although Cardenas was later ordered to leave the country by an immigration judge in 2023, he has eluded these orders.

Cardenas and seven other migrants were taken into custody by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in March on a variety of allegations, such as having a loaded gun on school property and having controlled narcotics in their hands.

The migrants were reportedly living in a basement flat in the Bronx, where they allegedly kept a youngster close to drugs and loaded firearms.

New immigrants who have ties to Tren de Aragua are known for stirring up problems in New York City. Mark Morgan, a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation and a former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told The National Desk that these people are putting the city in danger.

Many of these people are not native speakers of the language. Because they lack employment skills, a known tie to the area, and a means of support, they are easy pickings for gang recruitment, according to Morgan.

In February, Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, said that immigrants should be subject to more severe punishments for their offenses.

“The sanctuary city law needs to be changed so that we can turn someone over to ICE and have them deported if they commit a felony or violent act,” Adams stated.
