Walmart confirms all 4,606 stores to close for entire day next week – and Target won’t be any help
Because more than 4,000 Walmart shops will be closed for 24 hours this week, customers will need to find other ways to shop for the holidays.
The four-year tradition, which began during the pandemic, is being carried forward by the shop.
This Thursday, more than 4,600 establishments will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving.
This year’s Thanksgiving, which comes on November 29, will be the fifth year in a row that Walmart has chosen to close for a full day.
A NEW TRADITION
Walmart used to be open on Thanksgiving every year, but since the epidemic in 2020, managers have given employees the entire day off so they can spend the holiday with their families.
Walmart CEO John Furner said that a Texas Walmart employee’s idea led to the decision to buck the custom.

In an interview with USA Today, Furner stated, “We want you to spend the day at home with your loved ones.”
Both retail employees and customers have shown strong support for the company’s decision to close on Thanksgiving.
Stores will only be closed for the entire day on Thursday, so don’t worry.
The next day, it will reopen so you may take advantage of Black Friday sales.
CHAIN CLOSURES
For those expecting to avoid these Target store closures, the news is unfortunately not good.
Additionally, Target will close on Thanksgiving but reopen early on Black Friday.
Many retailers are doing the same this year and giving their staff members the day off.
Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe’s are among the other retailers that will be closed on Thanksgiving and return on Friday.
SHOPPER ALTERNATIVES
Some locations will still be open for shopping on Thanksgiving, whether you’re looking for last-minute holiday food items or presents for your loved ones.
On Thanksgiving, many Kroger stores will remain open, but with shortened hours.
If you need to get something, Whole Foods will also be operating during shortened hours.
Hours will differ based on store location, though, much like at Kroger.
