Walmart shoppers blast store’s ‘dumbest’ move for not accepting payment method used by rivals like Dollar Tree & Target

Customers are accustomed to using contactless payments, particularly Apple Pay.

To the dismay of its customers, Walmart has been a holdout, whereas the majority of retailers embrace Apple Pay.

Customers are voicing their disapproval of Walmart, one of the few large businesses that does not accept Apple Pay.

“Walmart not having Apple Pay has to be the most dumbest most inconvenient *$%# to ever exist,” a customer wrote on Xfuming.

As someone else noted, “Even Dollartree has @Apple Pay.”

The customer then pleaded with Walmart to “please” include it at the register.

HOW IT WORKS

According to Walmart’s website, you must have the Walmart Pay app installed on your smartphone in order to use it.

You must save gift, debit, or credit cards to your Walmart account when you launch the app.

The next step is to select your preferred Walmart Pay payment option.

As usual, you can still use paper coupons at the self-checkout or cashier.

Once your shopping is complete, scan your purchases in any checkout lane, then use the Walmart Pay app or your phone’s camera to scan the QR code on the register and pay.

Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?

Doug McMillon, the CEO of Walmart, explained to Ben Thompson why Apple Pay isn’t available in shops.

While there has been constant discussion about utilizing Apple Pay at the business, McMillon stressed that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”
