Watch Syrian rebels storm Assad’s palace and rifle through dictator’s bedroom drawers after seizing second city Aleppo

Syrian rebels can be seen searching through Bashar al-Assad’s bedroom drawers and invading his palace in INCREDIBLE footage.

The brutal dictator’s humiliating video was released last week, just as Islamist forces took control of Aleppo, the nation’s second city.

With the declaration that “terror only understands the language of power, and we will break it with it,” Assad vowed to fight back when his house was taken.

Insurgents are seen on camera exploring the opulent residence that seems to be Assad’s palace.

Clad in balaclavas and brandishing AK-47s, the combatants move through opulent bedrooms and an en suite, gathering objects from the dresser and inspecting cabinets.

They respectfully put things back where they found them and don’t wreck the house.

Their unexpected attack, which began just a few days ago, caught Assad off guard and has now taken control of dozens of towns and hundreds of miles of terrain.

Since the troops of the Syrian Salvation Government (HTS) make the president appear weak, the attack directly threatens Assad’s control.

Video captured the throng surrounding the statue of Bassel al-Assad in Aleppo’s Basel Square on Saturday before the former Syrian presidential heir was torn down from his horse.

The incident is reminiscent of the symbolic removal of Saddam Hussein’s statue during the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

In addition, rampaging rebels have destroyed a Russian flag, torched the tricolor of red, blue, and white, and stamped on it, claiming that this was Allah’s will.

With the Islamist-led rebels fighting Assad’s army on Tuesday as they moved towards the city of Hama in central Syria, the main thrust of the surprise onslaught has now turned south, according to a war monitor.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor stated that since starting the lightning onslaught last week, HTS and its supporters have engaged in some of the “most violent” skirmishes with local troops.

Conflicts have broken out in the rural areas of northern Hama, where rebel groups have taken control of many cities and villages in the past few hours, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

“Syrian and Russian air forces carried out dozens of strikes on the area.”

Hama will be Assad’s main target because it is a vital city that connects Aleppo to the capital, Damascus.

However, scores of Syrian army tanks and military vehicles were left by the side of the road in the northern Hama countryside, where an AFP journalist was stationed.

Early in the civil conflict, the city was a stronghold of anti-Assad sentiment and the scene of regular large-scale demonstrations.

The director of the Observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, stated that a rebel capture of Hama would “pose a threat to the regime’s popular base”.

Russia has promised to continue supporting the most recent fighting and first directly involved in Syria’s conflict in 2015 by striking areas controlled by rebels.

Airstrikes on the northwest insurgent stronghold of Idlib and the province of Hama were also reported by the state news agency SANA.

Another rebel fighter, Abu al-Huda al-Sourani, told AFP, “We want to advance on Hama after combing” the conquered towns.

Assad is from an Alawite minority in the western countryside of the province.
