(FOX 2):Three young people died late Sunday night in West Bloomfield Township, and local police and fire officials are making their way back to the area.

According to a news release issued by the West Bloomfield Police Department on Tuesday, police are carrying out a search warrant at the home located in the 50000 block of Pembury Lane.

On Tuesday, police continued and followed up on their investigation.

A search warrant is being carried out at the residence by police officers and firefighters “to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fire to determine to the greatest extent possible what happened.”

According to the statement, a resident inside the burning house called 911 to say that they were unable to escape the flames.

A potential criminal inquiry may be indicated by the escalation.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office will be notified of any West Bloomfield findings.

It is still unclear what caused the fire and why the victims—a 12-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old girl—were unable to leave the house while it was burning.

“I’m not sure at this time,” West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Byron Turnquist told FOX 2 on Monday. “I know the police department has interviewed the parents and I just don’t have the results of the interview, so I’m not sure where they were at the time of the fire,” he said.

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, authorities arrived at Pembury Lane in response to a 911 call indicating a fire.

After being taken to the hospital, three youths were pronounced deceased.

According to fire officials’ preliminary information, the house did not have any operational smoke alarms at the time of the fire.
