Ken Flores’ early life and career
Ken Flores was raised in Chicago, Illinois, in a Latino working-class household.
As a teenager, he started his comedic career by sharing humorous videos on social media sites. Some of his early work went viral and was published on WorldStarHipHop.
After his family moved to Aurora, which is about an hour west of Chicago, Ken talked candidly about how he first became interested in stand-up comedy in a 2023 interview with the Comedy Gazelle.
“I was a teller at PNC Bank at the time, and the owner of the Comedy Shrine in Aurora used to bank with us,” Ken stated.
Open mic night
“I would play with him whenever he entered. I was repeatedly invited to his open mic. He says, “Dude, you’re hilarious.” Please come to the microphone.
“Then one day I went just to see, and I think this is my ego or big head talking, but I thought to myself, ‘These people suck!'” as I saw forty people ascend.
“‘I’m better than that,’ I thought. After I signed up, I realized that this was more difficult than I had anticipated. A reality check sort of hits you in the face.
“However, you get bitten by the standup bug and get addicted after that one big pop. I couldn’t stop once I went up for the first time.
