“When White Castle opened its doors in 1921, we believed every family deserved access to hot and tasty affordable food.
“Thanks to our founder Billy Ingram, that simple idea launched an industry, and we honor that devotion to great taste and value with just as much passion today,” he added.
The Double Cheese Slider is one of the top sellers for the fast food chain and features double the 100% beef of a regular Slider, melty cheese, and a steam-grilled bun to lock in the flavor.
In fact, the menu item is so popular that it’s also available from grocery stores for foodies who aren’t local to a White Castle.
The history of White Castle’s Sliders
White Castle launched when Ingram and Walter Anderson started selling small hamburgers for 5 cents each in 1921.
The burgers became known as Sliders because they were so easy to eat people said they slid down their throat – the more you know!
“Only one fast food restaurant can stake claim to being the first, and that title belongs to us at White Castle,” Richardson said.
“We began as a family-owned company and continue to be family-owned, with a main goal of delivering delicious and affordable food for your family.”
With 340 restaurants as well as a retail division providing its famous fare in freezer aisles of retail stores nationwide, White Castle’s delicious food is a staple for many foodies.
As part of its commitment to offering the highest quality products, White Castle owns and operates its own Slider Provider meat plants, bakeries and frozen-Slider retail plants.
White Castle’s rise to popularity
White Castle has become an American fast food staple since launching its first restaurant more than a century ago.
The company was founded by Billy Ingram on September 13, 1921, in Wichita, Kansas.
Ingram began the family-owned business with $700, per White Castle’s website.
He sold his small, square hamburgers for only five cents.
They were so easy to eat that they were named Sliders and sold by the sack.
In 1934, the company moved its headquarters to Columbus, Ohio.
In 2014, Time Magazine declared White Castle’s Original Slider the most influential burger of all time.
The chain now operates nearly 350 locations across 13 states, mainly in the Midwest and the New York metropolitan area.
White Castle is famous for its Sliders, but its menu also includes items like fries, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks.
It also serves breakfast, drinks, and desserts.
