Who was Jane Rimmer? Woman murdered by Bradley Robert Edwards aka the Claremont Killer

The first known victim of a string of crimes that shook Australia in the 1990s was a childcare worker named Jane Rimmer.

The Girls Who Disappeared: Murder in a Small Town, a Channel 5 special, examines the horrific crime spree of Bradley Robert Edwards, the serial murderer who killed her.

Jane s disappearance

When Jane vanished in the outskirts of Claremont, Australia, she was only 23 years old.

On a night out with her pals, she disappeared in the early hours of June 9, 1996.

Before going to the Continental Hotel and the Club Bayview, they had stopped by the Ocean Beach Hotel.

When her companions decided that the line at the nightclub was too long, they went home, but Jane stayed out later.

At midnight, she was last captured on security footage outside The Continental.

Her body was found forty kilometers south of the motel fifty-five days later.

The naked body of Jane was discovered by a family gathering wildflowers in bushland on August 3, 1996, after her killer had left it there.

The search for the killer

Police were perplexed by Jane’s death because there was no clear killer.

But the killer returned on March 15, 1997, a mere nine months later.

When Ciara Glennon made the decision to drive herself home, she was drinking with friends at the Continental.

At half past midnight, she was last seen by three men conversing with a man in a light-colored car at a bus stop.

A woods hiker discovered Ciara’s body on April 3, weeks later.

By this point, the authorities were certain that Claremont had been home to a serial killer for a while.

A task group called Macro was established when the first victim, Sarah Spiers, vanished in January 1996.

Unfortunately, it would take decades for the serial killer to be apprehended.

Jane s killer is caught

Bradley Robert Edwards was taken into custody in December 2016 in connection with the killings of Jane and Ciara.

It was discovered that Edwards had a violent past that included sexual assault and break-ins.

Liz Kirkby, a 25-year-old lady, found Edwards in one of her bathrobes in her toilet.

Then, after she repelled him, he attacked her and fled the house.

Fibers that matched those on Jane and Ciara’s bodies were found in Edwards’ vehicle following his arrest in 2016.

Additionally, it was discovered that at the time of the killings, he was operating a vehicle that matched the murderer’s.

Edwards was found guilty of killing Jane and Ciara and given a life sentence with the chance of release after 40 years.

The judge stated that it was more likely than not that he was involved in Sarah’s death, even if there was insufficient proof to connect him to it.
