Who was Reggie Gibson aka Saafir and when did the rapper die?

Rapper Saafir has away at the age of 54. According to his friend Xzibit, “my soul is crushed.”

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 8:45 p.m., his family confirmed his death.

Who was Saafir?

Actor, producer, and arapper Reggie Gibson was also known as Saafir.

His gritty, jazz-influenced style and life-changing experiences were well-known.

Born in the Bay Area of California, Saafir started out as a dancer for the hip-hop group Digital Underground.

He even lived with rap icon Tupac Shakur, who placed him in the 1994 modern crime movie Menace II Society and introduced him to filmmakers Alert and Allen Hughes.

The rapper enlisted the Hobo Junction, a Californian hip-hop ensemble, for his freestyle debut after landing a contract with Qwest Records.

He then appeared prominently in a rap war between the East Bay group Hieroglyphics and his group, Casual.

According to KQED, Saafir signed a contract with Quincy Jones as a result of his performance in the rap duel.

The rapper did, however, face his share of health issues.

aboard July 30, 1992, Saafir was a passenger aboard TWA flight 843, which crashed after an attempted takeoff.

Saafir hurt his back when he jumped from the blazing jet to the ground, but fortunately, everyone made it out alive.

Saafir’s malignant tumor, which was removed from his spine in 2005, became the cause of many of his problems over time.

In an interview with 48 Hills, he disclosed that the goal of the procedure was to keep him from being paralyzed and to save his life.

He managed to prevent this, but he nevertheless lost the ability to use his legs proportionately, which led to the need for a wheelchair.

How did he die?

The rapper’s cause of death has not been revealed, however his groupmate Xzibit made the following announcement: “My brother Reggie, who is known to the world as Saafir, passed away approximately at 8:45 am this morning.”
