Wolf records double-double to lead Michigan to 66-63 win over Rutgers

(AP) Piscataway, New Jersey-PISCATAWAY, N.J. With 16 points and 14 rebounds from Danny Wolf and 14 points from Vladislav Goldin, Michigan defeated Rutgers 66-63 on Saturday to win their second consecutive game.

The lone Scarlet Knight starter to score in double figures with 10 points was Ace Bailey, while fellow backup Tyson Acuff scored 14 points and reserve Jamichael Davis scored 20 points for Rutgers.

The Wolverines (16-5, 8-2 Big Ten) led the remainder of the game after Goldin’s basket with 4:42 remaining before halftime gave Michigan a 22-21 advantage. The margin was increased to 30–21 after 3-pointers from Sam Walters and Will Tschetter, as well as two foul shots from Roddy Gayle Jr. At the break, Michigan had a 32–25 lead.

With 15:06 remaining, Acuff scored a jump jumper to bring Rutgers within 40-35. Five minutes later, the Scarlet Knights (11-11, 4-7) were within 44-41 thanks to a three-pointer from PJ Hayes IV. With 7:53 remaining, Zach Martini made a 3-pointer to pull Rutgers within their narrowest deficit margin of the second half, 46-44.

Michigan’s two Goldin foul shots increased the advantage to 57-50. Rutgers was within four points after Davis sank a three-pointer, but the Wolverines held on when Goldin made a layup.

As the game came to a close, Davis scored a three-pointer to seal the victory.

On Wednesday, Michigan will host Oregon, ranked 16th. On Wednesday, Rutgers will visit Illinois, ranked 18th.
